Ras Al Khaimah’s New Traffic Law Dh20,000 Fine for Plate Offenses

UAE, December 20, The Ras Al Khaimah has implemented new strict traffic laws, Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 on Traffic Regulation. If you transport bicycles or additional luggage in the back of your car, it is important to keep the vehicle’s plates visible at all times. Failure to do so then it might lead to serious consequences, including a Dh20,000 fine and imprisonment for 5 number plates.

On Wednesday, December 18, the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) police proclaimed a reminder to motorists about the new rules. The main intent of which is to emphasize the significance of safe driving and proper compliance with traffic regulations.

Penalties for Misusing Licence Plates

Motorists are urged to avoid the following actions:

1. Manufacturing or imitating a license plate, or using a manufactured or imitated license plate.

2. Defacing, altering or obliterating license plate information while it is being used.

3. Allowing someone to use a license plate knowing that it has been obliterated, defaced or altered.

4. Transferring a license plate from one vehicle to another without obtaining necessary approvals from the licensing authority.

5. Installing a licence plate, or assisting or facilitating its installation, in violation of the provisions of this Decree-Law and its Executive Regulations. (Ref. Gulf News)

Penalties for driving without a number plate

Driving without a license plate brings serious consequences. The offender may face:

• A fine of Dh3,000
• 23 black points on their driving record
• Vehicle confiscation for 90 days

Authorities explain previous crimes that could lead to impounding.
